Please click on the image above to visit NASA’s official website regarding the 2017 Solar Eclipse, which will take place in our area Monday, August 21, 2017 starting a little after 1 PM, will reach its peak at about 2:45 PM (about 72% of the Sun will be occluded by the Moon at that moment), and will conclude by 4 PM. Since the NYC area is in the penumbra and not umbra region of this solar eclipse, Belleville will experience a partial (not total) solar eclipse.
Nevertheless, Mayor Kimble, the Town Council, and the Town Manager strongly recommend that everyone follow the advice of medical experts to avoid any possible permanent eye injury, which can occur if the necessary precautions are not followed required to safely view any portion of the eclipse.
And for eclipse enthusiasts, the greater NYC area will experience a total solar eclipse of its own the morning of May 1, 2079. So mark your calendars and may we all be so fortunate to witness that event!
