Please be advised that Belleville will conduct a Water Tax Lien Sale on Monday, June 12, 2017 for any past due water bills prior to the end of 2016.
In order to avoid a potential tax lien, any Belleville homeowner with a yet unpaid outstanding water bill balance as of December 31, 2016 should reconcile this matter as soon as possible.
Please note the following timetable pertaining to the Water Tax Lien Sale:
- Homeowners with prior year(s) unpaid water bills must reconcile their debt by 4 PM Thursday, May 11, 2017 to avoid public legal notice of their name/address appearing in the Belleville Times as being subject to the Water Tax Lien Sale. Personal checks will not be accepted – you must have either a bank check, money order or cash.
- Following this publication in the Belleville Times, homeowners subject to the Water Tax Lien Sale will have until 4 PM, Friday, June 9, 2017 to visit the Tax Collector’s Office in person to resolve their debt. Once again personal checks will not be accepted – you must have either a bank check, money order or cash.
- On the day of Water Tax Lien Sale, Monday, June 12, 2017, the Tax Collector’s Office will not accept any last minute payments to avoid the Tax Sale.
While water bills can be ordinarily paid online via the Township website, if you become subject to a Water Tax Lien, you will need to visit the Belleville Tax Collector’s Office in person to resolve the debt.
If you have any questions about this matter, please contact the Tax Collector’s Office at 973-450-3342.
