Deputy Mayor and 1st Ward Council Member, Marie Strumolo-Burke has been a resident of Belleville for 45 years. Her mom, Connie Natale Strumolo was born and raised in Belleville. Her father, Fiore Strumolo, was born in Newark and after marriage moved to Heckel Street, where Marie & her husband Charles Burke now reside.
The Councilwoman has one son, Anthony Gammaro, daughter-in-law Loraine and grandchildren Alicia and Anthony.
A graduate of Central High School, she was the Valedictorian of her Class. Marie has been the President & Co-Founder of the Silver Lake Civic Association for 12 years;, Belleville Democratic Chairman, Clerk of the Belleville Planning Board for 20 years, Author of Life In Silver Lake for Belleville Times. She has been awarded a Plaque from BHS Varisity Baseball Team, Recipient of the Silver Card from the Belleville Police Dept; Certificate from the Shafter Branch Library, Community Service Award from the N.J. General Assembly.
