John Notari has served as the Councilman for the 4th Ward from 2004 to present and from 2006-08 he was also the Deputy Mayor of Belleville. Prior to becoming a member of the Town Council, John was a member of the Belleville Board of Education from 1993-2004 and was the President of the BOE from 1999-2001.

In addition to his service as a Councilman and BOE member, John is a member (and past President) of the Belleville Kiwanis Club and a member of the Belleville-Nutley Columbus Day Parade Committee.

A life-long resident of Belleville, John graduated from Belleville High School in 1976 and went on to earn his Doctorate (Ph.D) in English from Rutgers University.   He also holds 3 Masters degrees in the following areas:  Communications, English, and Educational Administration.

John is an educator (teacher of English) at Clifton High School where he has taught for the last 33 years. He is also a current faculty member at Montclair State University and Essex County Community College. He has also served as an adjunct professor at Stevens Institute of Technology.
